Cascade Canyon is truly a hidden gem, quietly nestled on the edge of the woods, on the outskirts of the town of Fairfax. You can find the school site easily, but you have to look deeper, you have watch the students and the teachers for a moment, before you truly find Cascade Canyon. Then, you will be amazed by the spirit of this community.

You'll see little children included in older children's games. You'll see a young teenager run to help a younger student. You'll see a five year old, a nine year old and a twelve year old engage in an intellectual conversation. As an educator, working in the field for over twenty years, I have seen schools struggle with how to teach social responsibility. At Cascade Canyon social responsibility is happening. And it's a beautiful thing to see!

_____________

How many times have you attended a CCS event and said, "I get it, that's why my student goes to this school." Whether it's for a kindergarten birthday ceremony, a Breakfast Club song, or the enthusiastic reports from one of the overnight retreats, CCS is constantly teaching its students. The school, through its fabulous and committed teachers and staff, creates a learning process that extends far past the physical borders of the school.

What else does a parent want from a school? A safe, nurturing place for a child to learn and grow. A place that will inspire a lifelong love of learning. Not just strict academic learning to become a good student, but learning how to be a good friend, a good person and a good citizen.

The beauty of Cascade Canyon is the diverse academic and creative environment that engages students continuously. As a parent of two Cascaders, I see first hand that they want to go to school every day. They know and I know they will be challenged, nurtured, respected and accepted for who they are. They are empowered to speak their thoughts in a supportive environment and they know they are part of a loving community of peers, teachers and parents.

And, as a result of the whole education process, teaching them to be good students as well as good people, they can go out and make a difference in this world.
