CCS Variety Show Celebrates Community

At the Cascade Canyon School Variety Show and Community Potluck on Friday, November 20th, audience members marveled over inspired and heartwarming student performances ranging from live music acts,  to circus acts, to dance, comedic skits and original poetry. Under the guidance of music teachers Jayme Pohl and Karen Sonnenblick, students also performed pieces learned in music class, showing the progression in music study from Kindergarten through eighth grade. K-2 music students sang an accompanied call and response song, keeping the beat with rhythm sticks; 3-4 students sang a jazz-infused song with percussion, xylophones and whimsical movement; 5-6 students improvised the blues, melding solo and choral voice with a range of instruments including the mouth organ, percussion and xylophones; and 7-8 students performed original musical compositions and choreography set to African proverbs. The evening began with a multi-generational sit-down potluck dinner: delicious home-cooked food, wonderful conversation, laughter and joy. Lingering long after the event is a shared sense of awe in the bravery of chlldren, the strength of our community, and the magic of our school. Our next whole school event will be the Winter Celebration, on Friday, December 18th, from 2:00 - 3:00 PM in the Sanctuary. Families and guests are invited to come share in our wishes for peace and celebrate the beauty of winter.
